Three-year-olds to hold sway again, with John and Thady Gosden hope an obvious contender

Three-year-olds have dominated this fillies’ handicap with nine victories over the past decade. Only last year's winner Quietness, who ended the season rated 23lb higher, obliged in that timeframe.

The three older fillies this season – Azahara Place, Organic and Pasha – are more exposed than Quietness was and those from the Classic generation will probably hold sway in receipt of 13lb in weight for age.

There are four last-time-out winners among them. Tempted took a big leap forward from her juvenile days when landing a Wolverhampton mile novice last month, which raised her BHA rating from 62 to 72. An extra two furlongs is uncertain to suit, however.

Patsy Snugfit made all in a course-and-distance handicap when sporting first-time cheekpieces recently, although she benefited from a low draw there and is berthed in stall 11 this time. She is up in class and this demands more.

The same concern surrounds Schemaya from stall 13. She was a pillar-to-post winner on her handicap debut at Windsor and meets stronger opposition on this drop in trip.

The other recent winner is the well-bred Crepe Suzette, who has been given 42 days to get over her Wolverhampton maiden success in April. She still looked green when hanging under pressure, but she jumps off the page as a likely improver and the third and fourth from that race were next-time-out winners.

The daughter of Saxon Warrior’s dam progressed to land the Nassau Stakes as a four-year-old and she is the type of slow-maturing filly her connections shine with.

Going update

The going is good to firm, good in places. Raceday is set to feature bright spells and highs of 21C, a change to the wet conditions last week, although the track "has always remained on the faster side of good".

What they say

Neil Mullholland, trainer of Organic
She hasn’t really taken to hurdling so we’re going back on the Flat. It’s competitive but hopefully she can run a nice race.

Hughie Morrison, trainer of Azahara Palace
Because of the lack of races for older fillies she's forced to take on the three-year-olds which will be a big ask for her but we’ve nowhere else to go.

Thady Gosden, joint-trainer of Crepe Suzette
She won nicely on her comeback on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and top of the ground and the step up to a mile and a quarter should suit her well.

Jane Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Casa De Salinas
She's been training nicely at home since her comeback at Yarmouth following which she came back sick.

Hugo Palmer, trainer of Patagonia Girl
She hasn’t run badly on both her starts this year and we think she'll be suited by stepping back in trip. She’s also down in class so hopefully she can be in the mix on her first run against older fillies.
