Take this young improver to show Audience and Kinross how it's done in John of Gaunt

The biggest John of Gaunt field since 2015 is a sign Britain’s seven-furlong division is in its strongest position for years. Such a positive turnout may be testament to this batch of horses now having a proper end goal at home in the coming months. 

For so long the Prix de la Foret on Arc weekend was the sole 7f Group 1 for older horses in Europe. That has now changed, with the European Pattern Committee elevating the status of the City of York Stakes to give Britain its first top-level race over the trip. 

York's contest at the Ebor meeting was already a hugely valuable Group 2, but races like the John of Gaunt Stakes will become an even more established stopping off point on the road to the Knavesmire.
