Punchestown Champion Bumper runner bids for second hurdles win and David Flood has his first runners for three years

Punting pointers for Tuesday's meetings. . .

Ballinrobe: Sunny's hot spell

Sunny South West's only defeat in his last four starts came when tested at Grade 1 level and the improving five-year-old looks to continue his good spell in the 2m1½f novice hurdle (6.12).

The Eddie Power-trained runner contested the Champion Bumper at Punchestown after winning at Clonmel in March but proved no match for a quality field, led home by Bambino Fever.

Sunny South West outclassed his rivals in another bumper at Tipperary in May, before making a smooth switch to hurdles at Cork this month when scoring by five and a half lengths.

In opposition here is I Am Mimi, who represents Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Gavin Cromwell. The six-year-old won a handicap hurdle at the track in May.

Lingfield: Atmosphere out to ace it

Jack Callan, son of July Cup-winning jockey Neil, bids to make it three out of three on the Richard Spencer-trained Atmosphere in the opening 1m1f handicap (2.15).

The rider claimed 3lb off the three-year-old’s back when striking at Kempton last month, and 5lb when scoring at Thirsk a week ago ago.

Both victories came in apprentice handicaps and he gets to claim his full 7lb allowance here off the bottomweight, who in between those runs finished third under George Wood at Beverley.

Spencer said: "He won last week and has got no penalty for winning an apprentice race. He did it well and has come out it well.

"Jack can claim 7lb this time, so he's running off a bit of a lower mark than he won off last week, although it's a bit more competitive with more runners and a couple of unexposed ones in there."

Musselburgh: Stable earning her keep

A course hat-trick could be on the cards for Keep Me Stable, who lines up in the 7f handicap (5.00).

The Linda Perratt-trained five-year-old was fourth here in May but stepped forward when winning narrowly over a mile in June. The handicapper raised her 3lb but she improved again when winning well this month under David Allan, who keeps the ride.

She must defy another 4lb hike and faces two other course-and-distance winners in Judgment Call and Code Purple.

"I rode her for the second time last time and was a bit more patient on her, and she travelled well and dug in well at the finish," said Allan. "She's in great form and the way she won last time, it felt like she had a bit more up her sleeve. She should run another big race."

Wolverhampton: Flood back in action

David Flood is back with his first runners since April 2022, with both featuring in the races whose titles mark the retirement of commentator Derek Thompson.

Flood saddles debutante Time For Action in the 7f fillies’ maiden (7.30) and Noble Phoenix in the closing 6f handicap (9.00).

Flood concentrated on the Flat for the final few years of his last stint in the ranks, and he has 65 winners in total in Britain, his best season coming when he posted 21 in 2004. He landed his biggest winner the following year when Im Spartacus won the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh, the trainer's sole success in Ireland.

Flood, who also has three wins over jumps to his name, said: “These are my first runners back and I'm training in Stow-on-the-Wold. I'm healthy, happy and grateful to be back doing all I know.

"Noble Phoenix is a cheap handicapper out of Andrew Balding's and it's just a starting-off point for Time For Action to see where we are. I don't want to get carried away and make people think they're good things or anything like that."

Wolverhampton stat: +£92.41

The profit from a £1 level stake had you backed Tom Faulkner's runners in handicaps at the track this year. He runs Baileys Warrior (6.30) and Ignition (8.30)
