Popular veterans clash at Fakenham and in-form jumps yard chasing more winners - Tuesday's punting pointers

Punting pointers from today's race meetings . . .

Fakenham: veteran Beau back for more

The golden oldies are back in town and the 3m veterans' handicap chase (4.15) offers £30,000 in prize-money.

The Seamus Mullins-trained topweight Tommie Beau earned his stripes with three wins last summer and was kept busy during the winter. He ran out in dramatic style in the cross-country race at Cheltenham's November meeting and then finished down the field in the Fleur de Lys and Cotswold Chase.

He wasn't up to that standard but will find this much easier against similar types such as the 2022 Coral Gold Cup winner Le Milos, Glynn and Bretney.

Mullins said: "This has been on the agenda since we put him away for his mid-term break. He's won at the track and likes it there and it's a nice little race."

Ffos Las: red-hot Murphy runs last-start winner

Olly Murphy enjoyed a strong end to the jumps season, with the yard boasting a 34 per cent strike-rate in the past fortnight courtesy of 11 winners from 32 runners.

Tropical Speed looks to have an excellent chance of enhancing the strong stable form in the 3m novice handicap hurdle (3.00). The six-year-old broke his maiden at the tenth attempt, and on his third start for the trainer, at Stratford last time.

He won by seven lengths and still has untapped potential in the handicapping sphere, so has to be taken seriously with the newly crowned champion jockey Sean Bowen aboard.

Murphy has two runners on the card, with Stumps Or Slips having his first start for the trainer in the 2m5½f handicap chase (4.30).

Wolverhampton: debut winner Dream returns

Castillo Dream is one to note in the 1m½f fillies' novice (7.00) for Ed Bethell.

She made a promising debut at Carlisle in September, racing greenly but picking up strongly in the closing stages to clear away from Thecla, with the runner-up scoring at Hamilton on her next start.

That run came over 6f and it took her a while to get organised to challenge, so the step up to this trip on her reappearance looks a wise move. She is by Kodi Bear but there's much more stamina on the dam's side of her pedigree.

Her opponents include another previous winner in Bela Sonata, who was successful on her second start at Kempton last month.

Worcester stat: Kielan Woods

Worcester: take note of trainer-jockey combination

Harry Cobden will bid to enhance his 20 per cent strike-rate (12-59) for Neil Mulholland on this evening card.

They team up with last-start winner Earth King in the 2m7f handicap hurdle (6.48).

Cobden was aboard when the nine-year-old scored at Exeter in October so it bodes well he has been rebooked for this first run in 196 days.

Earth King has a 3-9 record over hurdles and remains open to progress despite a 6lb rise for that success.
