Mullins and Townend ride in Chester opener plus Grade 2 winner for Nicky Henderson has first start for new connections

Punting pointers for some of Friday's meetings

Chester: Mullins and Townend in action in opener

Patrick Mullins and Jody Townend, better known for their exploits over jumps, descend on the Roodee for the track's opening amateur jockeys' handicap (1.40).

The Irish riders switch codes for this 7f Flat contest in which Mullins finished third last year on his only previous visit to Chester. He teams up with Ollie Sangster for the ride on Profit Refused

Townend will have her first ride at the course when she partners the Adrian Keatley-trained Wobwobwob, but the runner with the best form coming into the race is Ultramarine, who seeks a hat-trick for trainer David Evans and is partnered by David Dunsdon.

Fairyhouse: Fahey handicapper in line for quickfire course hat-trick

I Bid You Ajou has taken to Fairyhouse like a duck to water, and the four-year-old bids for a course hat-trick in just over two weeks in the 6f handicap (6.15).

Trained by Mark Fahey, I Bid You Ajou took 16 attempts to get off the mark but finally managed to do so in a claiming race at the end of last month, and he soon followed that up with another success back at this venue in a 6f handicap.

Stable apprentice Joseph Harnett was on board for his last win, but the experienced Dylan Browne McMonagle takes over here.

Goodwood: Shoemark attempts to boost fine course record

Kieran Shoemark has a tidy 30 per cent strike-rate (3-10) at the course this year and has four rides with chances on the evening card.

Shoemark partners recent Yarmouth winner Telecommunication in the 1m2f handicap (6.05) and Cock And Bull in the 1m6f handicap (6.40) for trainer Michael Bell.

One of his best chances could be Natsumi in the 6f fillies' handicap (7.15), while he rides the Charlie Hills-trained Fort Augustus, who drops to in trip in the 5f handicap (7.50).

The Richard Newland and Jamie Insole-trained Natsumi is a two-time winner from nine outings, and is only 1lb higher than for her last success at Lingfield in March.

Insole said: "The step up in trip on this fast track should suit. I'm just a bit cautious about the potential rain as she wants good, quick ground so we'll see what conditions are like in the morning."

Market Rasen: Sean Bowen teams up with James Owen for two rides

Sean Bowen has not taken his foot off the pedal since winning the jump jockeys' championship, and he aims to continue his top form with two rides at the Lincolnshire venue.

The jockey has a 50 per cent strike-rate at the track with three winners from six rides this campaign, and gets the leg up on James Owen's recent recruit Abingworth in the 2m5½f handicap chase (7.00).

The seven-year-old was sent off odds-on last time at Fakenham but was beaten by Hurricane Bay, and will aim to go one better for Deva Racing against just three rivals.

Bowen again teams up with the trainer and owners on Greenrock Abbey, who returns less than a week after his Worcester third in the 2m3f handicap chase (8.10).

Newton Abbot: Shanagh Bob has first start for new connections

Shanagh Bob, a three-time winner for Nicky Henderson including in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Cheltenham in 2023, has his first start for new connections in the 3m2f novice handicap chase (6.45).

The seven-year-old will race for Henry Oliver and owner Nick Shutts after being bought for £43,000 at the Goffs UK Spring Sale at Doncaster last month.

Shanagh Bob ended his time at Seven Barrows with a victory in a two-runner novice handicap chase at Ludlow in the lead-up to the sale.

Oliver said: "He's fresh and well and looks to be on a workable mark. My only concern is the ease in the ground as we were hoping for some decent going."

The trainer-owner combination also run Three Pikes, a £50,000 purchase from the same sale who finished second at Chepstow in March, in the bumper (9.00). Oliver said: "He's a lovely individual and has worked nicely. He has shown a consistent level of form in his two starts."

Sandown: take note of this maiden with an eyecatching honour roll

Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Native Trail and Criterium International scorer Sunway feature on the honour roll for the 7f maiden (2.05).

Charlie Appleby, the trainer of Native Trail, runs debutant Saba Desert. He is closely related to Spinning Wheel, who has a 2-2 record for Simon and Ed Crisford this year, and is the mount of William Buick.

Another newcomer to note is the Ralph Beckett-trained Waterford Castle, who cost €190,000 at the Goffs Orby Book 1 Sale last year and is ridden by Rossa Ryan.
