Guineas and Derby entries at Chelmsford and a trainer bidding to maintain a perfect record at Plumpton - Thursday's punting pointers

Punting pointers from today's race meetings . . .

Chelmsford: Classic credentials put to test

The bet365 Cardinal Conditions Stakes (7.30) has attracted a quality field, with a few runners holding entries in the 2,000 Guineas or the Derby.

Detain, trained by John and Thady Gosden, drops back in grade on his reappearance after finishing sixth in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes in October on his last start.

He was a convincing winner of two novice stakes on the Polytrack at Kempton before that and is a 66-1 shot for the 2,000 Guineas, although being a half-brother to St Leger runner-up Arrest, the Dante might be a more likely target.

Luther, who finished second to subsequent Grade 1 winner New Century in a Listed race at Salisbury, was not suited by the soft ground in the Royal Lodge when last seen. He is a leading form contender here on his reappearance and is a 66-1 shot for the Derby.

Vintage Stakes runner-up Wolf Of Badenoch, a 100-1 shot for the 2,000 Guineas, may have benefited from a break, while Yaroogh, the highest-rated runner in the race, could step forward following his return in Qatar.

Naas: Blanco a pointer to McManus Aintree contender

Honesty Policy has been bought by JP McManus ahead of a tilt at the Grade 1 Tuners Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree on Saturday and his form could get a timely boost courtesy of Los Blanco, who lines up in division one of the 2m maiden (1.25) at Naas.

Los Blanco has not been seen since finishing third on his hurdling debut over this course and distance in January when he was five lengths behind Honesty Policy, who has strongly advertised the form with wins at Navan and Leopardstown since.

The winner of that contest, the Willie Mullins-trained Joystick, has finished second in a Grade 3 since, too, and trainer Henry de Bromhead won this race last year with the useful Gorgeous Tom.

The Noel Meade-trained Zoffman, who is rated 89 on the Flat and finished second on his hurdling debut at Navan last month, looks his biggest danger.

Plumpton: potential mares' double for King

Alan King's main focus of the day will be on whether Charisma Cat can add a Grade 2 victory to her Sandown Listed success in Aintree's mares' bumper (5.15), but the trainer may already have enjoyed a winner by the time of the Aintree finale courtesy of Dance The Moon (2.30) in the mares' novice hurdle at Plumpton.

The five-year-old made a promising start to her hurdling career when third over this 2m4½f trip at Southwell last month, when she finished a place behind subsequent Grade 2 runner-up La Pinsonniere. The winner of that race is rated 125 and Dance The Moon has a far more straightforward task here against just three rivals.

"It was a decent effort for a 125-1 shot behind two horses with useful form at Southwell," said King. "She's come on for that as she was only just ready to run."

Plumpton stat: perfect course record

All four of Charlie Longsdon's runners at the track this season have won and Delpotro is the trainer's sole runner in the 2m1f conditional jockeys' handicap chase (1.55).

Sedgefield: classy Cancelled can make successful debut

Jonjo and AJ O'Neill are usually worth following when making a long journey from their Cheltenham base and they saddle two interesting candidates here.

The duo, who have a winner and a third to their name from just two runners at the track, run hurdling debutant Cancelled, who was rated 84 on the Flat after winning a Gowran maiden when trained by Willie McCreery in Ireland. She was thrown in at the deep end on her stable debut, finishing last in the Winter Oaks at Lingfield in January, but could prove too classy for her rivals in the 2m1f mares' maiden (3.17).

The O'Neills will look to double up in the following 3m2½f handicap chase (3.52) with Ann D'Arabie, who is likely to step forward from her chasing debut second following a break last month.
