Curragh maiden winners for Aidan O'Brien take aim at feature Group 3s at Leopardstown

Composing could follow in the footsteps of some smart Ballydoyle fillies by landing the Group 3 Saudi Cup Silver Flash Stakes (6.27), but will face stern opposition in the shape of Brownstown from the Gavin Cromwell stable.

A daughter of Wootton Bassett out of the classy mare Epona Plays, Composing caught the eye when staying on into fifth on her debut at the Curragh and improved sufficiently when upped to seven furlongs to score at the second attempt.

She raced more prominently then and found an extra gear in the final half furlong to repel the challenge of Cape Sounion, who brought a decent level of form to the table having been runner-up on her two starts beforehand, by half a length.

The ground was described as soft on Wednesday and if it does not dry out much, Composing is well-equipped to cope with it on breeding given her dam put in a career-best performance on soft when bolting up in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes in 2021.

"She came forward nicely from her first run to win at the Curragh," trainer Aidan O'Brien said. "The step up to seven furlongs last time suited her and everything has gone well with her since."

Brownstown is proven in conditions already as she won her debut race over the course and distance on soft, and the half-length winning margin did not accurately measure her superiority.

She was left in front two furlongs out when the leader veered off and immediately charged into a two-length advantage. A barrier trial winner prior to her debut, she could be excused for idling in the run to the line and was the best filly on the day by a fair margin.

The Cracksman filly had the reopposing Red Autumn behind in seventh and while that rival has landed a Bellewstown maiden in good style since, the form should be confirmed, particularly on similar ground.

The following Group 3 for colts, the Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes (6.57), has also been landed by some top-class O'Brien-trained juveniles such as Rip Van Winkle, Gleneagles, Churchill and Anthony Van Dyck, while the subsequent Group 1 Futurity Trophy winner Hotazhell triumphed for Jessica Harrington last year.

This time, O'Brien's Flushing Meadows rates a tough nut to crack as he steps up to seven furlongs for the first time. The impressive winner of a Curragh maiden last month, he was sent off the 2-9 favourite for the Anglesey Stakes last time only to be narrowly denied by the exciting Suzie Songs.

"He was a bit green the last day in front over six," said O'Brien. "We always thought seven wouldn't be a problem for him and he seems in good form."

His main rival in the four-runner field is the Joseph O'Brien-trained North Coast, who finished second to the very exciting Daytona in Listed company last time.
