Amateur rider bids for third win in four runnings of Cartmel race and Charlie Appleby is back for more joy on the July course
Punting pointers for some of Saturday's meetings . . .

Cartmel: Hill seeking another success
Izzie Hill will be reunited with an old friend when she bids for a third victory in four runnings of the 2m1f handicap hurdle (2.50) restricted to female jockeys.
The amateur partners Luttrell Lad, on whom she won the race two years ago. Her 7lb claim will come in handy on the Tom Lacey-trained topweight, who will benefit from any rain.
Her competition includes last year's winner Ashington for Mark Walford and jockey Becky Smith.
Cartmel stat: 75 per cent
Doncaster: more Bethell brilliance?
Trainer Harriet Bethell has a 50 per cent strike-rate (2-4) in handicaps at Doncaster this season and bids to enhance that record with Original Thinker (6.15) and Yanifer (8.15).
Original Thinker recorded her second win two starts ago over this 7f trip at Carlisle before stepping up in class last time. She drops back in grade with Oisin McSweeney taking off 3lb.
The claimer also partners Yanifer, a course-and-distance winner owned by Bethell. He has not won since landing a Class 2 at Chester nearly a year ago.
Bethell said: "I'd be hopeful for Original Thinker as long as the ground doesn't turn too soft and I think she has plenty of wins left in her this season. If it rains and turns heavy, Yanifer would have a right shout. He seems in fine form and his last run at York was epic.”
Haydock: Canvas bids to follow up
Canvas has found his form with victories in two of his last three starts and bids to follow up for Scott Dixon in the 1m2f handicap (6.55).
The three-year-old, who will be partnered by Joey Haynes, record a career-high Racing Post Rating of 78 when scoring by a length and a half at Doncaster.
He is stepping up to 1m2f for the first time, but the way he ran through the line last time suggests this longer trip should not be a problem.
Dixon said: "He has been progressing quite nicely. He won at Doncaster in May and then all sorts went wrong at Ffos Las last time. The steady gallop there didn't really suit him at all, so I was confident returning to a sounder surface with him last time. He's always improving and I don't think he's the finished article."
Newmarket: more Appleby July course joy?
Charlie Appleby stole the show at the July festival and returns to the track with Spirited Style in the Listed Ric And Mary Hambro Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes (4.55).
With William Buick at Newbury, Billy Loughnane, who on Friday became the first jockey in Britain to reach 100 winners this year, takes the ride.
The Godolphin filly caught the eye when second at Ascot on her debut before scoring at Haydock last time. It will be the first time the daughter of Sea The Stars has been partnered by Loughnane, who has an impressive 57 per cent strike-rate when riding for Appleby.
The early market suggests her chief rival will be the John and Thady Gosden-trained Understudy, who outran odds of 40-1 to finish third in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Newmarket stat: In-form trainer
Stuart Williams has a 50 per cent strike-rate in handicaps with three-year-olds and older this season and bids to enhance that record with Rajaking in the 7f handicap (5.30) and Nordic Games in the 6f handicap (7.05).
Ripon: two chances for Williams
Ian Williams has two chances in the £50,000 Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap (3.55), including course winner Woodstock City.
The five-year-old must bounce back to form after 11 winless starts but it is promising to note his most recent victory came here off the same mark of 75 in August.
Stablemate Tribal Wisdom should be suited by the step up to 1m4f after a staying-on fifth over 1m2f at Ascot last time.
On ratings The Reverend sets the standard for William Haggas after finishing fifth at York last time. The form of the race has worked out well with the third, Plage De Havre, winning the £150,000 Old Newton Cup by four lengths on his next start.
