'I won't cry over spilt milk' - valuable winner has Menuisier focusing on future

Tuesday: Goodwood

David Menuisier joked British prize-money was the best in the world after Munch landed the £100,000 conditions race, but he was deadly serious when stressing some departures from his yard have not come close to denting his confidence.

Based locally, Menuisier was thrilled to see Munch oblige under Kieran Shoemark, but the trainer has lost one-time Classic hope Lionel and useful sprinter Atalanta's Boy recently.

"You just carry on," he said.

"I would only be worried if everything that has happened in the last nine years was all down to luck. I'd like to believe we are doing something right and, therefore, there is no point crying over spilt milk.

"I'd rather focus on the future and the future – with Mudskipper, who was second earlier, and this filly and many others – is bright."

Website wonder

John O'Shea is planning a website revamp and Dundory was programmed to perfection to win the 1m3f handicap under the in-form Gina Mangan.

"I'm getting it redone after about ten years, but my girls have been on at me for ages," said the Gloucestershire trainer, who has been at the game for around 30 years and has a string of 20.

"I'm just not into things like that though. It's an important part of life now, or so I keep getting told.

"I hope it will improve business, but I'm not into tech in any way. I've been training for a long time, though, and there are a lot of people who know us at our local tracks, but then there are a lot of people in racing who don't know us – maybe this could help because we do get good results for what we have."

Aggagio 'fantastic'

Gary Robinson has had some fun with Aggagio, whose victory in the 2m handicap was his fifth since the owner got hold of him.

"He's fantastic," said Robinson. "I was gutted when he was beaten here last time because he should have won, but he loves it here and so do we.

"We only live in Havant, so this is our home track. When I bought him, people said it was silly, but that's five wins from eight starts this year."

Aggagio is trained by Gary Moore and Robinson is very much a hands-off owner.

He added: "I'm driven by Gary as he sees the horse every day and no-one likes a Google expert, which is all I would be. It's best off leaving Gary, as a professional, to make the best decisions by the horse and that's what he's done."

Cox double

Clive Cox was thrilled to see the Queen's Love Affairs get off the mark in the fillies' nursery, but his grin grew even bigger after watching John Chard VC strike at Leicester moments later.

"I thought John Chard was booked for second, but luckily he put his head down at the right time," the Lambourn trainer said. "I'm very pleased for his owner Kevin Bailey, who is a good supporter, while I'm thrilled that filly has won for Her Majesty."
