'He does everything so easily' - brother to Adayar stars in Appleby four-timer

Wednesday: Newmarket

Championship-topping trainer Charlie Appleby and champion jockey William Buick have mopped up most of the juvenile races since racing returned to the Rowley Mile last month and fittingly kept the momentum going with a 68-1 four-timer on two-year-old day at the track.

The best was saved until last from the Godolphin team with stablestar Adayar's younger brother Military Order scoring in the mile Future Stayers novice that the stable last won with subsequent Classic winner Hurricane Lane in 2020.

Appleby said: "I really like this horse. He does everything so easily at home that he doesn't know what it's all about at the races. He has the same profile as his brother and we'll put him away after that."

The winner was cut to 25-1 (from 40) by Paddy Power to emulate Adayar by winning the Derby next year and headed a one-two from the yard with newcomer Ancient Rules in second.

Exciting prospect

Regal Honour kicked off the blue haul in the 7f novice but it did not look likely until he hit the rising ground when mastering market rival Greek Order.

The 5-6 favourite is certainly bred to be smart as he is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Rizeena and is held in some regard by Appleby.

He said: "William said he was still raw and he had to jostle him along a bit. He's a horse we like and we'll put him away now. Whether we bring him back over a mile and then go up to a mile and a quarter is up for debate but he's an exciting prospect for next year."

The Moulton Paddocks team won the two 1m2f races on the card, including the novice they won a year ago with recent St Leger second New London. Cannon Rock was successful this time, rallying to beat favourite Sir Laurence Graff.

Whether the gelded son of Fastnet Rock will match the exploits of his stablemate is up for debate but he looks sure to be effective over a mile and a half next year.

Appleby said: "Fair play to the team at home as Cannon Rock didn't excite us on his first start but has moved forward since. Hopefully the handicapper isn't too harsh."

Just 35 minutes later, Godolphin were back in the winner's enclosure when Castle Way appreciated the return to a more conventional track in the Future Stayers nursery. The 3-1 chance was all at sea on the contours of Epsom last time but showed the Dip was no issue when scoring by three lengths.

Glass act

A three-hour drive from Cheltenham was more than worthwhile for David Crompton, a member of the Ontoawinner syndicate, when Gold As Glass landed division one of the 7f fillies' restricted novice.

The 16-1 chance was the lesser fancied of two Marco Botti-trained runners in the race.

Crompton said: "Expectations were low coming here as Marco has always thought she would be more of a three-year-old. That was a real bonus."
