Wednesday: Kempton

I Doubt That, the horse backed from 33-1 to 11-4, landed a gamble at Kempton, registering a first career success and improving considerably from his six defeats by a total of 173 lengths.

The four-year-old, making his first start for trainer James Fox, had to battle hard to deny Lucky Draw in the Racing TV Handicap over 1m4f but did enough at the finish to strike by half a length.

That was his debut for the yard and first time with a tongue-tie fitted. Group 1-winning jockey Pat Dobbs took the ride on the gelding owned by Sarah-Jane Fox.

Initially trained by Andrew Lee before moving to Kieran Purcell's yard, I Doubt That had shown little in six starts to date, posting a peak RPR of 51 on the flat and 90 over hurdles.

I Doubt That had been backed into as short as 7-2 during the morning and drifted slightly to 5-1 during the afternoon prior to being backed again before the off.

'It was an unusual horse to be laying'

Earlier in the day, bet365's Pat Cooney said: "There isn't fortunes around for it, obviously it's a surprising horse that's being backed. The jockey booking does look significant but apart from that, there wasn't an awful lot to recommend it.

"It was an unusual horse to be laying at Kempton tonight and the traders were quick to cut and keep going with the horse."
