Marathonbet suspend UK operations due to impact of events in Europe

Online bookmaker Marathonbet have announced they are suspending services on their UK-facing website due to "ongoing events in Europe".
The company, founded in 1997 with roots in Russia, said customers would no longer be able to make deposits or place bets with them after April 14 and that they were no longer accepting account registrations.
A message posted on the marathonbet.co.uk website said: "As the Marathonbet brand is operated globally, recent and ongoing events in Europe have had a significant impact for us.
"We regret to inform that we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend services offered on the marathonbet.co.uk website."
However, Marathonbet's websites licensed by the authorities in Italy, Spain and Denmark will continue to operate as normal, along with the marathonbet.com website licensed by the government of Curacao.
Marathonbet said existing customers would still be able to access their accounts to withdraw outstanding balances, although they warned that: "We may require additional documentation in order to process your withdrawals."
They added they would "endeavour" to honour all bets that are due to be settled by May 24, with any bets after that date set to be voided.
The company added: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal custom and for supporting Marathonbet.co.uk. If these circumstances change, we will not hesitate to contact you."
Marathonbet, who have had a UK headquarters in Brighton, had been a prominent sponsor in British racing as they sought to raise their profile, backing races and events including the November Handicap at Doncaster and Brighton's three-day festival of racing.
They are also the official betting partner of Manchester City football club.
