'We thought he was a stayer but he's showing loads of speed' - is Delacroix now the number one Derby hope for Aidan O'Brien?

The dash Delacroix showed at Leopardstown on Sunday pleasantly surprised Aidan O'Brien, who will bid to complete a clean sweep of the recent Derby trials when The Lion In Winter tackles the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes at York on Thursday.
There are four Ballydoyle-based colts in the top five of the Betfred Derby betting, the exception being 2,000 Guineas winner Ruling Court, and Delacroix was cut to 4-1 across the board following his classy performance in the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes.
O'Brien was in Longchamp to see Henri Matisse win the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, but he was keeping a close eye on Leopardstown and there was one part of Delacroix's display that impressed him more than any other.
