Once the dust had settled after the Irish Champions Festival and St Leger meeting in 2017, it was clear that Aidan O'Brien was poised to challenge Bobby Frankel's then record of 25 top-level Flat triumphs in a calendar year.
So with O'Brien charging forward at a similar pace in 2025, is he set to eclipse his own record of 28 Group/Grade 1 wins set eight years ago?
Saxon Warrior's defeat of Roaring Lion in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster secured the milestone for Ballydoyle in 2017, before Mendelssohn (Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf) and the globetrotting Highland Reel (Hong Kong Vase) raised the bar even higher. Now a new record is in sight.
