A scintillating St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot featuring a three-way clash between the British, Irish and French Guineas winners moved a step closer to reality on Wednesday, and Field Of Gold is set to come out best of the bunch, according to six-time champion jockey Kieren Fallon.

Fallon heralded the Group 1 showdown on Tuesday as “the race of the week” after 11 colts stood their ground, with Field Of Gold in line to face his Newmarket conqueror Ruling Court and Ballydoyle’s Henri Matisse in an early clash for three-year-old mile supremacy.

The St James’s Palace is one of three Group 1s on the opening day of Royal Ascot, with the Queen Anne Stakes and King Charles III Stakes also drawing deep fields.
