Derby 1-2-3s from Racing Post Weekender experts
1. DAMYSUS
2. Delacroix
3. Pride Of Arras
By Sam Hardy
Having finished third in Sandown’s Classic Trial and runner-up in last month’s Dante at York, Damysus is not an obvious choice for this year’s Derby, but he has improved with each run and would have got to the winner at York had it been over a longer trip. Further improvement can’t be ruled out for the son of Frankel. Delacroix looks to be Aidan O’Brien’s strongest chance in this year’s running and is an obvious danger.
1. STANHOPE GARDENS
2. Delacroix
3. New Ground
By James Hill
Delacroix is likely to shorten provided Ryan Moore picks him. He’s the likeliest winner, but at the prices I’ve got to select Stanhope Gardens, who only has a neck to find with the Ballydoyle favourite from their meeting at Newmarket in October. The selection warmed up for this with a recent victory at Salisbury. In the event conditions become really soft, you’d do worse than have a little on French raider New Ground, who is crying out for further.
1. MIDAK
2. Ruling Court
3. Pride Of Arras
By Stuart Redding
Midak made his debut only in March but has quickly progressed through the ranks and completed a hattrick at Saint-Cloud recently. He could easily find the improvement required to land an emotional victory in a race being run in memory of the Aga Khan, who had numerous winners in the colours he will carry here. Ruling Court was perhaps slightly lucky to beat Field Of Gold in the 2,000 Guineas but that was still a smart effort and connections have long thought this test would suit.
