He had racked up an unbeaten run of 16 coming into the race and had established himself as a champion beyond dispute, winning five Group 1s in the process. What we had to remember, though, was that Golden Sixty was by now a six-year-old, which in horse years makes him almost eligible for a bus pass.
On the flip side of the argument, his Racing Post Ratings seemed to be getting better and better, not least when he won the Jockey Club Mile in November 2021, beating the useful Waikuku "readily" by a length at level weights.
