Millman approaching best haul in more than a decade with smart future prospects
Rod Millman continues to thrive with his Flat team in Devon and is enjoying what has increasingly become a family affair – but it could all have been very different but for what he maintains was the most important win of his career 22 years ago this week.
“Sergeant Cecil was a wonderful old boy who won a Cesarewitch, a Northumberland Plate and a Prix du Cadran, but Lord Kintyre in the 1997 Super Sprint was the one that mattered most,” says Millman.
“Lord Kintyre’s win pretty much kept the show on the road. We’d seen our numbers inching down slowly to the point we were struggling to make a success of things, but all of a sudden owners discovered us after that and we’ve built up a very strong bunch of owners since. We have a lot to thank him for and he’s still with us, doing his job looking after the babies each season.”
