Maybe I haven't got a telepathic relationship with Michael van Gerwen after all. The strong current of energy I thought I was feeling from Brisbane turned out to be – as youngsters often say about negative things – pants. Maybe the strong current of energy was coming from my pants.

After four tournaments in a row successfully predicting the fortunes of Van Gerwen, I became convinced the Dutch darting dynamo was transmitting information on his wellbeing to me telepathically, but the Brisbane Darts Masters indicated otherwise.

My brain was receiving overwhelming messages, which I assumed were coming directly from the head of Mighty Mike, urging me to back Michael van Gerwen to triumph in Brisbane. Even when I was brushing my teeth or having a quiet tinkle, a booming voice between my ears would suddenly cry 'I'm full of energy and am going to win!', leaving me shaking with shock and fear amid the carnage of misdirected toothpaste and tinkle.
