There have been 13 horses based in Lambourn to have etched their names into the history books as winners of the Derby or the Oaks – but none in the best part of two decades.
In 2006, Marcus Tregoning sent out Sir Percy to provide the Valley of the Racehorse with its last Derby success. No trainer has managed that feat in the 19 years since, although Owen Burrows came close with fourth-placed finisher Deira Mile last year.
It was only his second Derby runner after Massaat, who finished ninth in 2016, and he travels to Epsom this weekend with 100-1 shot Al Wasl Storm.
