Betting shop operators have initiated the next stage of their 'Back Your Local Bookie' campaign with the launch of a petition calling on government not to put jobs at risk in the sector through further regulation or tax increases.

Since Monday, customers of Ladbrokes Coral, William Hill, Paddy Power Betfair, Betfred and around 100 independents have been asked to sign the petition, which will be delivered to culture secretary Karen Bradley by the Association of British Bookmakers.

The government launched a review of gambling in October that will not only include the triennial review of gaming machine stakes and prizes but also examine bookmakers' social responsibility measures and gambling advertising.
