Green-fingered Sandra confidently takes judges behind the scenes on way to title

Paddy Power have made being risky and flamboyant part of their DNA, but when Sandra Gilmartin appeared before the Betting Shop Manager of the Year judging panel this month, she cut a sensibly down-to-earth figure.

However, her self-confidence was on open display: her fingernails were painted Paddy Power green. Her passion also became evident when she talked about responsible gambling.

"Our business has got such an unfairly bad reputation," she said. "Take any documentary about betting, they often reflect a total animosity to betting and betting shops. There is little or no reference to the flipside, the amount of good in the game.
