Impressive Turners Novices’ Hurdle winner The New Lion is unlikely to run again this season, with connections keen to target the Champion Hurdle route next campaign.
The Dan Skelton-trained six-year-old defeated main market rivals The Yellow Clay and Final Demand on his first start for JP McManus in the Grade 1 event over two miles and five furlongs on Wednesday.
The New Lion had three starts over hurdles between October and December, including when securing a Grade 1 breakthrough in the Challow at Newbury for previous owner Darren Yates, and is likely to drop back in trip next season.
