Tuesday's fixture at Ayr has been cancelled following an inspection with the course waterlogged after heavy rain.

With areas of standing water and false ground on the track, officials called an inspection at 11.30am on Monday, at which point the meeting was scrapped.

The Scottish course has been hit by heavy rain and there looked to be no respite with a storm forecast for Tuesday morning.

Clerk of the course Graeme Anderson said on Monday: "After looking in daylight we came across quite a bit of standing water and a few false patches. It's raining quite heavily now, so there's going to be no chance of improvement.

"Tomorrow morning is looking really bad with a named storm [Bram] bringing torrential rain and 60 miles per hour winds."

Fontwell's meeting on Monday got the go-ahead after the rain-hit course passed a morning inspection.

Officials called the inspection following 52mm of rain since entries were made last week, but the track survived the deluge with the ground described as heavy, soft in places.

Following a dry night, some showers are forecast throughout the day, but the bulk of the rain is expected after racing. The six-race card is due to start at 12.55.

Clerk of the course Philip Hide said on Monday morning: "The going has improved quite a bit, but I was reluctant to change the headline description because we could see some showers through the day. There's heavy and soft out there, and it's going to be opened up as well.

"I'm reasonably happy with where we're at, as normally when it's quite wet here they do tend to get through it bit better than when it's gluey and attritional."

The rest of the day's action is made up of an all-weather fixture at Lingfield, starting at 11.07, Musselburgh at 12.45 and Wolverhampton at 4.30.
