Gambling tax harmonisation
Much was made of Lord Allen's knowledge of government and his links to Labour when news of his appointment was announced, and his ability to have the right doors open for him in Westminster will be vital in his first few weeks in the role. The government's plans to harmonise online gambling duties could prove incredibly damaging to British racing's finances and Allen will need to lead efforts to convince the Treasury that it needs a rethink. The findings of the Gambling Commission's affordability checks pilot will also need his attention.
