Jockey arrested following car crash which has left passenger in hospital

A jockey is at the centre of a police investigation after a car accident on Sunday morning left his female passenger in hospital.

The jockey was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide specimen for analysis, and bailed while the police investigation continues.

In a statement released on Monday, Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a serious injury road traffic collision in Hermitage, West Berkshire.

“At around 12.05am on Sunday, on Marlston Road, a single vehicle, a grey Mercedes A Class, crashed into a tree. Both occupants of the vehicle required medical attention, with a woman aged in her twenties taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains at this time.

“A 29-year-old man from Hungerford has been arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He has been released on police bail.”

Approached on Tuesday, the jockey did not respond to a request for comment on the accident.
