Charity syndicate headed up by Clarkson's Farm star Gerald Cooper raises £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK

A syndicate headed by Clarkson's Farm star Gerald Cooper has been a hit success and has resulted in a £28,500 donation to Prostate Cancer UK.
Cooper, who features in the Amazon Prime documentary charting Jeremy Clarkson's farming exploits, helmed the creation of a syndicate launched by Old Gold Racing for jumping prospect The Mullet, named after Cooper's iconic haircut.
The youngster has been sent for pre-training at the yard of Charlie Longsdon, whose family are connected to the Coopers, and the 3,000 shares for the gelding were quickly swept up at £60, resulting in the large charity donation.
"It's fantastic news!" said Longsdon. "It's a pleasure to be involved in this great initiative set up by Old Gold Racing and Gerald, and I'm delighted to see the money we've been able to raise for Prostate Cancer UK so far.
"The Mullet has had a little break and is starting his pre-training next week. We should have him ready to hit the track in the spring, so we're very excited about that."
Alongside the initial donation, The Mullet's owners will be able to give Prostate Cancer UK any prize-money accrued through The Mullet's career, supporting a charity which assisted Cooper throughout his own battle against the disease.
Cooper said: "It was a shock – but everyone has really supported me. I received tremendous support from family, friends and Prostate Cancer UK, which was also a lifeline. I made it through and I'm now cancer-free. I wanted to do something joyful for a good cause."
Concerning his sold-out syndicate, Cooper added: "I'm over the moon! I still get people asking me to buy shares, now I'll have to tell them no. Maybe we'll have to get a second horse!"
