Big Mojo will try to emulate former stablemate Big Evs at Glorious Goodwood after running 'absolute blinder' in July Cup

Big Mojo could attempt to emulate his former stablemate Big Evs by dropping back in trip for next month's King George Qatar Stakes (3.05) at Glorious Goodwood.

The three-year-old looked the most likely winner entering the final furlong of Saturday's July Cup before being narrowly denied by No Half Measures.

After four starts at six furlongs this year, Big Mojo is set to drop to the minimum trip on August 1 in a Group 2 landed by Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Big Evs.

"He ran an absolute blinder on Saturday," said trainer Mick Appleby. "It's just unfortunate the winner came from the other side of the track but he ran a great race and we're really pleased with him. He's genuine, brave and you wouldn't think he'd had a race given how well he's come out of Newmarket."

The options are open for Big Mojo, who runs in the same colours as the retired Big Evs for owner Paul Teasdale. A return to Glorious Goodwood, where he won last year's Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, is likely to be his next step, while the Nunthorpe and Flying Five have also been mentioned.

"We wouldn't be opposed to dropping back to five furlongs now," added Appleby. "I'd imagine the King George is the most likely target for him next, or the Prix Maurice de Gheest. We wouldn't rule out going over six furlongs in the future. We'll just keep our options open because he's so versatile."

The early market for the King George Stakes is headed by Australian contender Asfoora, who was second to Big Evs in the race last year. King Charles III Stakes runner-up Frost At Dawn and Temple Stakes winner Mgheera are also prominent in the betting, while Big Mojo is available at around 10-1 generally.
