Walt times it right under Sam Twiston-Davies to win Kempton feature chase
Walt capitalised on his prominent position to gain first run and win the 888Sport Handicap Chase at Kempton.
Neil Mulholland was successful in this race two years ago with Pilgrims Bay and his eight-year-old Walt, a 14-1 shot, produced a career-best under Sam Twiston-Davies to win the £100,000 Grade 3 from topweight Double Shuffle.
Favourite Talkischeap never looked like getting involved in the finish, while Adrien Du Pont made some late ground to finish third, some way behind the front two.
Mulholland said: "We won this with Pilgrims Bay and Walt is a similar type of horse and, with the ground being the way it is, we thought we'd enter him and it's all worked out well.
"The visor has made a big difference and he enjoys being aggressively ridden. I think we'd stick to this trip at Cheltenham and the Ultima is probably where he'll go."
Twiston-Davies, speaking on ITV, said: "It's a big step up again. I was a bit disappointed last time he got beat because we bypassed two out and as you have seen today, jumping is definitely his strong point.
"Neil said before we want to do our best but don't get involved too soon and end up costing yourself decent prize-money.
"It worked out nicely and he kept galloping all the way out and through to the line. He got into a beautiful rhythm, slotted in on the outside handy, it's worked out really well."
Walt is entered in several Cheltenham Festival handicaps and was cut by Paddy Power into 16-1 (from 33) for the Ultima.
