Everton offer a perfect example of the potential pitfalls of holding on to a caretaker-manager for too long but West Brom look better under Gary Megson and can build on their 1-1 draw at Wembley by beating Newcastle at the Hawthorns.

Newcastle will be stronger with first-choice midfielders Isaac Hayden and Mikel Merino set to return but their 3-0 loss to Watford was a further blow to fragile confidence.

Albion haven't won in 12 but the departure of Tony Pulis seems to have taken some pressure off the players and they can respond with a much-needed victory.
