Match preview

Everton will hope to get the pulses racing again on Valentine's night following their nine-goal FA Cup thriller in midweek when they host a Fulham side who have earned a reputation as the cold fish of the league.

The Toffees had found goals hard to come by at Goodison Park before putting five past Tottenham on Wednesday and there are justifiable fears of them slipping back into those hard times without injured top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, netting eight goals in their last two matches via six different scorers is a positive sign that they are getting back to the free-scoring early season form which fired them to the top of the table in October.

Having got back on the goal trail, the next task for the top-four hopefuls is picking up more points at home, particularly against the likes of Fulham.

The visitors won’t make life easy for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, though, having become a much tougher team to beat since Everton won the reverse fixture 3-2 in November.

Those defensive improvements have translated into plenty of draws, nine in total, but few victories, and Scott Parker’s men are winless in 12, leaving them eight points from safety in the table.

The west London side have also failed to score a blank in four of their last five outings and their inability to take chances could ultimately send them down.

With Fulham misfiring, Everton have enough of an edge to warrant support for what will be a tight encounter.

Key stat

Fulham have never won a league game at Goodison Park, losing on their last 22 visits.
