Sheffield United
Midfield trio Luke Freeman, John Fleck and John Lundstram are set to miss the next two weeks.

Match preview

Sean Dyche has worked wonders at Burnley and they can move a step closer to qualifying for Europe for the second time in three seasons with a home victory over Sheffield United.

A lot can be made of flair and extravagance in the modern game, but Dyche has built his Burnley side on good old-fashioned hard work and determination.

The same can be said for Sheffield United, who have far exceeded all expectations after returning to the Premier League this term.

Chris Wilder has stuck to the philosophy that saw his boyhood club earn promotion from the Sky Bet Championship and his overlapping centre-backs have taken the Premier League by storm.

Just two points separate the Blades from Burnley in the table heading into Sunday's encounter at Turf Moor.

European places could stretch down as far as eighth this season and these clubs will have no qualms about fighting to the bitter end.

Burnley were handed arguably the toughest outing upon their return to footballing activities in June, losing 5-0 at Manchester City, but they have bounced back in typical style with successive wins to nil.

Sheffield United failed to score in each of their first three games back - all away from home - losing two and drawing one, but they stepped up to earn a 3-1 win over Tottenham at Bramall Lane on Thursday.

Indeed, performing on the road has been a major issue for the South Yorkshire side since the turn of the year and it could prove to be their downfall in the race for a European berth.

They have won just one of their last seven games outside the Steel City, losing four and failing to score in five during that sequence.

So a trip to Burnley won't be welcomed warmly, especially when considering Wilder is once again without John Lundstram, John Fleck and Luke Freeman.

Burnley's European hopes have been boosted by some solid form at Turf Moor and they could extend their unbeaten record at the traditional Lancashire ground to six.

The hosts also boast a strong home record against Sheffield United and will be seeking revenge after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture in November.

Recent meetings between the pair have offered up plenty of goals with at least three goals scored in each of the last three engagements, but with so much riding on this clash it could be a much tighter affair.

Key stat

Burnley have won their last three home meetings with Sheffield United
