The Los Angeles Chargers have seen plenty of false dawns in their time but they could finally be on the right path as they look to lay down a marker against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Often derided for finding new and creative ways to lose, the current Bolts cast appear to be cut from a different cloth, digging deep to see off Cleveland last week as they improved to 4-1.

The Ravens have also opened the season 4-1 and both sides look ready to pounce in the hotly-contested AFC Championship fight having already beaten defending conference champions Kansas City.

The Chargers defeated the Chiefs on the road in Week Three thanks to a strong performance from Justin Herbert, who has been in excellent form.

Second-year QB Herbert was the inspiration behind the Chargers' 47-42 comeback win over the Browns and in the last three weeks he has completed 77 of 119 passes for 901 yards, 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Herbert isn’t the only top-notch quarterback on show though with Lamar Jackson having posted a franchise-record 442 passing yards in Baltimore’s win against the Indianapolis Colts.

Based on the quarterback contest alone, it’s difficult to separate the two teams but overall the Chargers have been the more consistent outfit. Prior to the Browns clash, their defence had allowed more than 20 points only once, while their offensive line could frustrate Baltimore’s pass rush.

On paper, Baltimore have the weapons to hurt LA, particularly on the ground, but too often this season the Ravens have been forced to play their get-out-of-jail-free card - either in the form of Jackson or the NFL’s longest-ever field goal - on occasions which makes them tough to trust.
