San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks preview

The injuries may be mounting for the San Francisco 49ers but that isn't likely to slow them down as they gear up for a pivotal NFC West divisional encounter with the Seattle Seahawks.

These teams occupy the top two spots in the division but a victory for the Niners would secure them the division title. Given the talent they have at their disposal, they should be able to do just that.

San Francisco are on a six-game winning streak and no other team in the NFL are playing as well as they are right now. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the rest of the regular season a couple of weeks ago but third-choice QB Brock Purdy has since stepped in and proved he is a capable replacement.

The rookie led the 49ers to a dominant 35-7 win over the Bucs last Sunday, and San Francisco highlighted in that game their strength on both offence and defence.

Running back Christian McCaffrey continues to light it up in the ground game, while San Fran’s defence is one of the best in the league, having held opponents to 17 points or fewer in each of their last six games.

The Seahawks have surprised a lot of people this season and hold a 7-6 record, but they showed their limitations in last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers and have now won just one of their last four games.

Although quarterback Geno Smith has performed well and made full use of receivers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, it’s hard to see how this offence can perform well enough over the course of the game to break through the 49ers defence and outscore their opponents.
