Nap of the day: the best horse racing tips from the day's three meetings

Chelmsford

4.00: Don Simon

The impeccably bred Don Simon looks interesting now he's raised in distance under Ryan Moore as his comeback defeat in a novice event suggested there was more to come from him. Liam Swagger returns to the Flat on the back of a notable effort at the Cheltenham Festival and he's second choice ahead of Caballo De Mar, who faces his toughest test yet.

Lingfield

4.50: Backspin

Kiniro is open to further progress but will need luck from the inside stall. Coul Angel, Soldiers Star and Vocal Legend (second choice) can figure prominently but Backspin justified strong market support in good style on his handicap debut and can make light of a 6lb rise.

Newcastle

4.42: Plage De Havre

Roaring Legend is 3-3 for Hugo Palmer and took the field apart in a trial for this at Lingfield, albeit off an 8lb lower mark. He's clearly a danger to all and so too Wonder Legend who is 3-4 on this surface and still improving. However, making a case for the last named brings Plage De Havre firmly into the equation, as Andrew Balding's gelding didn't get the run of things when chasing him home at Wolverhampton and this should be closer to a level playing field, on a stiffer track and over a longer trip.
