Hong Kong racing tips: Jim McGrath with three selections at Happy Valley on Wednesday

Ryan Moore parachutes in for a cracking book of eight rides, headed by the John Size-trained Bundle Of Charm, who is the one to beat in the 6f handicap (2.15) at Happy Valley. 

Moore, fresh and ready for a busy year worldwide following a two-month break, rode in Riyadh last weekend and becomes the latest overseas jockey to provide injury cover for those injured in falls recently. He will stay in Hong Kong for three meetings. 

Moore finds himself in the unusual position of being able to assist both Size and rival David Hayes in their respective quests for the trainers’ title. They currently head the championship on 32 winners apiece and have good winning chances on the nine-race card. 

Bundle Of Charm has not won since April last year but has consequently dropped from the top of Class 2 to Class 3 company, which is significant demotion. He will find it much easier in this grade and looks very well placed with Moore booked. 

The danger is the Star Witness gelding Aurora Lady, who was found to have a breathing issue after a poor last run but has since passed a veterinary inspection. He is another favoured by a drop back in class. 

Earlier, Moore has an excellent chance on the Hayes-trained Soleil Fighter in the 1m½f handicap (11.40). The five-year-old is well known to Moore, who rode him to the second of his two wins for Richard Hughes over 1m1f at Sandown in June 2023. 

The inside draw (stall one) should enable Moore to take a sit behind the pace, which will be a big advantage in the short run to the first turn. The Pierre Ng-trained I Can (stall four), with Andrea Atzeni aboard, is another, who can race near the speed and looks the danger to the favourite. 

Moore has a great chance with Danny Shum’s Moments In Time (12.40), who is expected to revert to a front-running role, while he also partners Copartner Prance for Francis Lui in the 6f handicap (10.40), in which he faces a formidable challenger in Raging Blizzard. 

Things didn’t go right for Raging Blizzard last start and he is well worth another chance, especially drawn in stall two, with Hugh Bowman to take the mount. He can bounce back in this small field.
