Novak Djokovic is 100-30 favourite for the US Open after returning to the ranks of current Grand Slam winners with a straight-sets Wimbledon final victory over Kevin Anderson.

Djokovic, who defeated the big-serving South African 6-2 6-2 7-6 to notch a fourth All England Club singles crown, was hardly pushed early on as it soon became clear that Anderson had not recovered from his marathon 7-6 6-7 6-7 6-4 26-24 semi-final triumph over John Isner on Friday.

Anderson had chances to prolong the final – he failed to win any of his seven break points against the Serb and also spurned a number of points to win set three.

He was bidding to become the first South African to win the men's singles, had spent 21 hours on court to reach his first grass-court championship match and Anderson's tank looked to be virtually empty in the opening two sets.

It was Djokovic's 13th Grand Slam triumph and there could well be more to come judging by the way he defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.

The former world number one, who has taken a long time to rediscover his best form after an elbow injury, was seeded 12th for the championships but made only 13 unforced errors in the final as he looked back somewhere approaching his clinical best.

Djokovic said: "It feels amazing. This was my first Slam final for a couple of years and there is no better place to make a comeback."
