Day four preview

Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will want to make a big impact on day four at Wimbledon as he resumes his quest for a first Grand Slam triumph.

Only Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who is 1-33 to beat second-round opponent Ricardas Berankis, are shorter than the Greek in the outright market but Tsitsipas should not be anticipating an easy contest with plucky Australian Jordan Thompson.

Jack Draper and Liam Broady are among the Brits in action and, in the women's draw, all eyes will again be on Iga Swiatek.

Red-hot Pole Swiatek won her 36th match in a row on the WTA Tour with an opening victory against Jana Fett and faces lucky loser Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove in the second round.

Jordan Thompson v Stefanos Tsitsipas

Although considered an all-court player, things have not quite clicked for Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon and his run to the fourth round in 2018 is still his best performance at the All England Club.

But prior to the Grand Slam event this year, Tsitsipas finally secured his maiden grass-court title at the ATP Mallorca, swatting aside the likes of Marcos Giron and Roberto Bautista Agut on his way to glory.

And, after dispatching Alexander Ritschard in the first round, Tsitsipas claimed it's a "new start" for him at Wimbledon, where he can get the better of Jordan Thompson in the second round on Thursday.

That said, it may not be plain sailing for Tsitsipas, who made eight double faults in his opener and has dropped sets in three of his last four matches.

Australian Thompson is an inferior opponent but he dismantled Roberto Carballes Baena 3-0 in his first-round match and can nick a set off Tsitsipas in round two.

Bianca Andreescu v Elena Rybakina

It is looking like a memorable grass-court campaign for Canadian starlet Bianca Andreescu and she can march on at Wimbledon with victory over Elena Rybakina.

Andreescu finished runner-up to Caroline Garcia at the Bad Homburg Open in her final warm-up event before Wimbledon, having also made the last 16 in the Grass Court Championships Berlin earlier this month.

Following those performances with a straight-sets triumph over Emina Bektas, she looks a different player to when she crashed out in the first round of Wimbledon last year and could take some stopping.

Rybakina is by no means at her sharpest right now, conceding 11 games against CoCo Vandeweghe last time out, and Andreescu is worth a bet at a shade of odds-on.

Magdalena Frech v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova

Unseeded Pole Magdalena Frech has claimed a couple of decent scalps already during this grass-court season, ousting Qinwen Zhang in her opener at the Eastbourne International before recording a shock win over 21st seed Camila Giorgi in the first round at Wimbledon.

And the 24-year-old can justify favouritism in her second-round encounter with Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

Schmiedlova was pushed close by Rebecca Peterson in her Wimbledon opener, losing the second set 6-0 in that match, and did not have any grass-court preparation coming into the season's third Grand Slam.

Liam Broady v Diego Schwartzman

British hopeful Liam Broady was taken to five sets by Lukas Klein in his first match at Wimbledon and his clash with Diego Schwartzman on Thursday could also go the distance.

The clash between Broady and Klein featured 53 games, while Broady and Schwartzman also locked horns in the round of 64 at Wimbledon last year when the Argentinian eventually prevailed 4-6 6-2 6-1 6-4.

This also has the makings of a titanic tussle and punters should consider backing over 36.5 games.
