Match previews

Scotland began their T20 World Cup campaign with a narrow win over Bangladesh and are long odds-on to follow that up success with victory over debutants Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea looked hopelessly out of their depth in an opening defeat to co-hosts Oman, losing by ten wickets with more than six overs remaining.

Bangladesh are on a four-game losing run and their clash with Oman looks a closer betting heat but they will be looking to one player in particular to do damage with the ball.

Shakib Al Hasan will be crucial to Bangladesh's hopes of progressing from the first round, having played eight times for 2021 Indian Premier League finalists Kolkata Knight Riders this season.

The reliable spinner has been opening the bowling for the Tigers and even in the underwhelming defeat to Scotland, he still managed to give a good account of himself with figures of 2-17.

Those scalps mean he has now taken ten wickets in his last six T20 internationals and he faces little competition with the ball.

He looks worth backing to be Bangladesh's top wicket-taker against Oman at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground.
