Wells capable of testing Maguire

There is a decent future in snooker for Daniel Wells if he wants it and a day after ousting Matthew Stevens in the China Open, the Neath cueman could pose problems for Stephen Maguire.

Wells raced into a 3-0 lead against Stevens and while the dual Crucible finalist reduced his arrears to 3-2, the younger player reasserted well to triumph 5-2.

Maguire scored well in the process of ousting Li Hang 5-3 in round two – the Glaswegian posted breaks of 114, 100, 87, 80 and 71.

But Maguire’s commitment to reaching the top of the sport can still be questioned and the 10-11 about the match lasting for eight frames or more can be chanced.
