Second-round preview

Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson were two big-hitters to be dumped out of the UK Championship in the first round and David Grace could continue the theme of upsets when he takes on Anthony McGill in round two.

Grace has happy memories of playing in York having made the semi-finals of the 2015 UK Championship and the prices don't seem to be paying Amazing enough respect.

Of course, the Leeds man isn't winning on a regular basis, but he has enough good form behind him to suggest he can compete with McGill.

Grace made the semi-finals of last season's Northern Ireland Open, beating Dave Gilbert and Yan Bingtao along the way, and it took Judd Trump to stop him in the last four.

McGill is a capable performer but he has lost to Ross Muir and Zhao Jianbo in the recent British and English Opens, winning just a single frame, and a run to the quarter-finals of last year's World Championship is the only decent effort the Glaswegian has managed in the last 18 months.

Grace should be able to match McGill in any tactical battle and at 11-4 he looks good value to reach the third round.

Tom Ford's clash with Luca Brecel should be an entertaining contest and it's hard to see why the Leicester potter is the outsider.

Ford has bags of talent and although that isn't always evident in his results, Model T has still made four ranking event semi-finals in the last four years.

Brecel is a good break-builder when on song, but he doesn't produce on a consistent basis, and a quarter-final appearance in the English Open earlier this month is the best ranking event effort the Bullet has managed since he made the last eight of this event back in 2016.

The Belgian is likely to give Ford plenty of opportunities and the Leicester potter is one of the best in the business when among the balls.
