Kelty Hearts are the big spenders in League Two, and while that hasn’t been completely missed by the layers, there still looks to be a fair bit of value in the 8-11 on offer about them winning the title.
The Hearts have appointed former Rangers youth coach Kevin Thomson to replace departed boss Barry Ferguson and that looks an ambitious appointment.
Kelty have been busy in the transfer market and in former Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas they look to have signed a young player to excel at this level. Experienced midfielder Joe Cardle is another excellent signing and fellow new boys Andy Black, Jordan Forster and Reis Peggie all look strong additions.
The Hearts are playing in the football league for the first time in their history this season and if their League Cup exploits are anything to go by they are unlikely to have any trouble adapting to life in League Two.
Kelty competed well when losing 1-0 to Premiership Dundee United, a game in which they won the shot count 6-4, and they then went on to hammer League One side East Fife 3-0.
Another comfortable victory at Elgin followed for Thomson’s side and they were only narrow 3-2 losers in their final group stage contest at Championship side Arbroath.
Those performances show that Kelty are likely to prove far too strong for this section and they look well prepared for a title tilt.
Edinburgh City are rated second-best but the Citizens have lost a few key players in the summer and Stirling could well fill second spot. However, it's going to take a huge effort for any League Two side to break the Hearts.
