Saturday's European preview
After putting on a masterclass in game management in their 3-1 victory over El Clasico rivals Barcelona last Sunday, Real Madrid swatted side Elche 3-0 on Wednesday and the goals could continue to flow when they host Sevilla on Saturday.
Spearheaded by Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema, Real Madrid have established a three-point lead at the top of La Liga, having won nine and drawn one of their ten matches.
They have also looked pretty untouchable in the Champions League, taking ten points from their four games, and it will take something special to beat the defending European champions right now.
Strugglers Sevilla are unlikely to have that something in their armoury.
The Andalusians have tightened up since the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli as manager but they have still picked up only two wins in ten league fixtures and are struggling for goals.
They could be out of their depth at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Real Madrid are a good bet giving up a goal on the handicap, meaning they need to win by two or more for the bet to click.
Marseille were edged 1-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the first Le Classique of the season last Sunday but have to pick themselves up quickly for the visit of fellow highflyers Lens this weekend.
Only one point separates the sides, who are in the mix for the Champions League places, and it could be a cagey affair at the Stade Velodrome.
Goals have dried up for Lens, who have scored only three in their last five matches, and they have been more reliant on strong defensive performances for points.
Marseille have also been pretty stubborn opponents, shipping only eight times in their 11 Ligue 1 matches this term, and under 2.5 goals looks a wise bet.
Freiburg were given a reality check in a 5-0 pummelling by Bayern Munich last time out. But that was only their second Bundesliga loss of the season and they can respond by picking up three points against Werder Bremen.
Bremen possess one of the division's fiercest marksman this season in Niclas Fullkrug, who has eight league strikes to his name and is pushing for a call-up to the Germany World Cup squad.
But Freiburg are reliant on their physicality and should be able to keep Bremen's main man quiet.
Bremen were dumped out of the cup by second-tier Paderborn on Wednesday and failed to score in defeat to Mainz last time out in the league so are worth opposing at the Europa-Park Stadion.
