Story so far
Bernd Wiesberger leads the Scottish Open with 18 holes to play, the Austrian giant having reached 20 under par through three rounds at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick.

Wiesberger, who won the Made In Denmark at the end of May and tied for second place in the Irish Open last week, was a best-price 40-1 at the outset. No bigger than 5-6 is available with a round to go.

European Tour maiden Erik van Rooyen is alone in second place, two behind, while two others who have never won in this grade, Romain Langasque and Nino Bertasio, are tied for third.

Leaderboard
-20 Bernd Wiesberger
-18 Erik van Rooyen
-16 Romain Langasque, Nino Bertasio
-15 Matt Wallace, Jamie Donaldson, Lorenzo Gagli, Adrian Otaegui, Lee Slattery
-14 Andrea Pavan, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Henrik Stenson

Best prices
5-6 B Wiesberger, 100-30 E Van Rooyen, 18 M Wallace, 22 R Langasque, 28 N Bertasio, 35 H Stenson, 40 M Fitzpatrick, A Otaegui, 50 bar

Final-round advice
Bernd Wiesberger recently won a tight tussle for the Made In Denmark to clinch his fifth European Tour title, so he has a psychological advantage over the his final-round playing partner Erik van Rooyen.

A suspect short-game is the main reason Van Rooyen has yet to get off the mark on the European Tour, but he has won on the Sunshine Tour and the Challenge Tour, and is only 29. There is still time for him to become a champion and he seems to relish links golf.

The 5-6 Wiesberger is more appealing than the 100-30 Van Rooyen, given all of the above and the two-shot advantage of the leader, but it may be worth opposing both of them with a clear, calm final day expected. More super-low rounds will probably be up for grabs and somebody seems likely to spring from the pack to threaten the final group.

Romain Langasque, the 2015 Amateur champion at Carnoustie, is dangerous from only four shots behind, but Matt Wallace is the name which stands out on the leaderboard. The relentless Londoner is only five shots off the pace and will not have given up on a fifth European Tour triumph.

Jon Rahm popped his nose in front of Wallace in the Race to Dubai standings with victory in the Irish Open last week, but Wallace will be sensing a chance to regain top spot. He is a fierce competitor, blessed with a razor-sharp short-game, and it would come as no surprise if he followed a Saturday 64 with something even more spectacular on Sunday.

Wiesberger and Van Rooyen are obviously more likely to succeed, but the 18-1 about Wallace is generous given he won three times last year and is typically superb in contention. He has finished third and 12th in the last two Majors and appears to have taken himself to a new level. Any wobble from the front two and he will probably be primed to pounce.

Four bookmakers are offering 18-1 Wallace with each-way terms of a fifth the odds the first three.

Recommendation
M Wallace
1pt each-way 18-1 Betfred, Coral, Ladbrokes, RedZone
