Match preview

Early Championship pace-setters Reading were dragged back to the promotion-chasing pack during a difficult November spell, but they were convincing 3-1 winners at home to Bristol City on Saturday and should fancy their chances of beating struggling Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Reading played some excellent football at the weekend and could have won by a wider margin.

Exciting attacking midfielder Michael Olise has justified his return to the side with superb assists in the last two games and his creativity should benefit pacy forwards Lucas Joao and Yakou Meite, who were both on target against City.

Reading have enough attacking quality to remain in the promotion race and their goalscoring potential could make the difference against Wednesday, who are trying to build from the back under new manager Tony Pulis.

Wednesday are defending better but they look utterly toothless in attack and are sure to be eyeing up a few offensive recruits in the January transfer window.

Key stat

Sheffield Wednesday have not scored more than one goal in any of their last 14 matches.
