New ground is broken with the Riverside providing the first host venue for a new Sky Sports initiative to show all midweek Sky Bet Championship matches on the red button.

There are eight rounds of midweek action over the course of the 2018-19 campaign and every second-tier game throughout the season on a Tuesday and Wednesday will be broadcast, starting with Middlesbrough against Sheffield United.

Boro came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Millwall on Saturday thanks to a dramatic late fightback, but Tony Pulis is still trying to finalise his squad.

Ben Gibson has been sold to Burnley and Adama Traore is on the brink of a switch to Wolves, bringing big money into the club which Pulis will now hope to spend on reinforcements.

Pulis is not helped by injury doubts surrounding Rudy Gestede and Paddy McNair, although Ashley Fletcher is pushing for inclusion after making a positive impact as a second-half substitute at the Den.

United were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea on Saturday and Blades boss Chris Wilder also reckons he is short on numbers despite the permanent transfer window closing at 5pm on Thursday.

EFL clubs will still be able to make loan signings until the end of August and both clubs have work to do.

Boro are 3-1 to be promoted to the Premier League - the same price as Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds - and United are available at 9-1.
