Brazilian league leaders Corinthians produced a defensive masterclass to shut out title rivals Gremio on Sunday and they travel to Tunja in high spirits for their Copa Sudamericana clash with Colombian outfit Patriotas Boyaca.

Jadson’s second-half strike in Porto Alegre launched Fabio Carille’s crew to the summit of the Serie A table, replacing Gremio in top spot, and they arrive in Colombia clutching onto a 14-game unbeaten run.

The visitors were made to work hard for the points at Gremio. They had just 46 per cent possession and were dominated on the shot count, losing out 17-3.

However, Corinthians’ triumph was testimony to their team mentality and Brazil’s meanest defence – which has shipped just five goals in their opening ten league matches – is a tough nut to crack.

Corinthians have kept four consecutive clean sheets and are likely to deploy their defensive tactics to good effect and that could frustate a Patriotas side who may be lacking for match fitness.

The hosts' most recent competitive outing came nearly a month ago when they defeated Chilean side Everton to reach this stage.

However, it’s unlikely Diego Corredor will have his players in bad shape, given they only joined the Colombian top-flight in 2012 and this is one of their biggest meetings for some time.

Bookmakers make the hosts slight favourites, with Corinthians expected to ring the changes. But the Colombian side have a number of youngsters in their ranks and the occasion may get to them.

Corinthians look a touch overpriced given the quality they possess. Former Manchester City frontman Jo headlines their attack and can guide them to victory.
