Gung-ho Germany likely to be involved in goals galore

Goal difference is the first criteria used to separate teams level on points in Fifa competitions such as the Confederations Cup so expect Germany to be on the hunt for goals against Cameroon.

A draw will confirm Germany's place in the semi-finals, while Cameroon need to win by two goals to give themselves a great chance of making further progress, but realistically the final round of Group B matches is all about who finishes top between the world champions and Chile, who are unlikely to collapse against Australia.

Joachim Low has made a point of targeting top spot as it would mean they can remain in the seaside resort of Sochi for the semi-finals.

If Germany and Chile both win it will come down to who gets in the the greater margin of victory with the South Americans one ahead on goal difference after two games.

Germany should give Chile a run for their money but the best bet could be to take the favourites to win with Cameroon also hitting the target.

From the moment Low named a squad minus the majority of his big hitters it was clear this was an experimental competition for them and we have already seen two different keepers as well as different formations.

Australia scored twice in a 3-2 defeat and Chile notched in Thursday's 1-1 draw which suggests the squad is feeling the losses of Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng.

Shkodran Mustafi's mistake gifted Alexis Sanchez the opener on Thursday, while Bernd Leno was at fault against the Aussies, but this is a learning experience for Low's men.

Low even refused to make a substitution against Chile on Thursday - the first time in 22 years a German boss has not made a change - as he wanted to push his starting 11 to the limit and they still have some excellent options in the attacking third.

Lars Stindl has scored in both matches and this could be the perfect time to unleash Timo Werner from the start against a Cameroon defence who all ply their trade in non-elite leagues.

However, Cameroon's front three of Benjamin Moukandjo, Vincent Aboubakar and Christian Bassogog is the strongest part of their side with the squad shorn of many big names who refused to play in the successful Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Chile deservedly beat them 2-0 even though the goals came late, but Cameroon were much better in Thursday's 1-1 draw against Australia when they dominated the shot count 19-5.
