Match preview

Venezuela took a leaf out of the guidebook Sweden adhered to against Spain and rode their luck spectacularly to get on the board at the Copa America, but another hiding could be around the corner.

Thumped 3-0 by Brazil in their Group B opener, the Covid-ravaged Venezuelans battened down the hatches against Colombia on Thursday. And with 35 per cent possession and just one shot, they somehow managed to come away with a 0-0 draw.

Lens reserve keeper Wuilker Farinez was their hero, although it was a debilitating defensive effort which they may be about to pay for in their third game in seven days.

Ecuador, who had their break on matchday two, should be raring to go. They are unbeaten in their last six against the Venezuelans over the past decade and can wear down the outsiders.

Colombia v Peru

Where to watch

BBC red button, 1am Sunday night

Best bet

Peru draw no bet
1pt 3-1 general

Match preview

Peru took a 4-0 hiding off Brazil in their Group B opener but actually played moderately well.

They certainly saw their share of the ball and can improve on that against a Colombia side, who are struggling.

Los Cafeteros weren't overly impressive in their opener – a 1-0 win against Ecuador – nor their second match in which they missed a stack of chances in a tame 0-0 draw with Venezuela.

They have lost Porto duo Mateus Uribe and Luis Diaz to suspension – central midfielder Uribe will be a big miss – and this is a third game in seven days. They could be forgiven for being jaded and Peru have got enough about them to be able to take advantage.
