The Red Bulls have been kings of the Big Apple over the last couple of years and can extend their dominance when they clash with rivals New York City.

These teams have met seven times since City became a franchise and the Bulls have won six of those games with a four-out-of-four record at the Red Bull Arena.

The most recent triumph came just nine days ago when the Bulls beat Patrick Vieira’s City 1-0 in the US Open Cup.

Jesse Marsch’s men followed up that triumph with a tidy 2-0 victory away in Philadelphia to move up to fifth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Worryingly for City fans and backers, Bradley Wright-Phillips bagged both goals at the Union and is starting to look dangerous again for the Red Bulls in the box. Given that he has scored eight goals in six appearances against the other New York outfit, he’s going to be full of confidence.

City are third in the conference but have a truly awful away record having recorded just one road success since April.

They have three key players absent with injuries – midfielder Maxi Moralez among them – and they are becoming overly reliant on David Villa, who has ten goals for the season following his double against Seattle last weekend.

On paper it should be a belter. It’s up to you New York, New York, to deliver.
